From the Bay Area to the World! – Meet Eurovision Fam’s Jordan

Here in the Eurovision Fam we want to feature YOU! No, not all of you, but a few YOUs in the Eurovision Song Contest fandom. We’re reviving a well-loved past feature format, where we highlight and center the voices of individual fans who are not from Eurovision participating countries.

This is the second installment where our audience gets to know a little more of each member of the current Eurovision Fam team. Today, we’re featuring Jordan, who is part of our video team and one of the hosts of our weekly streams on Sundays!

Where are you from?

The San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States

When and how did you discover the Eurovision Song Contest?

June 2014 after seeing an article about Conchita Wurst. As a lover of geography, music, and newly enough, queer culture; I had a great time discovering.

What is your all time favorite Eurovision Song?

“Oro”, Serbia 2008

Who is your favorite Eurovision winner and why?

“1944” by Jamala – 2016 was a well-written, pdynamic and dramatic number. I get chills each time. The song is a timeless winner. A close runner-up would be Carola Häggkvist in 1991, winning with “Fångad av en stormvind” because it’s just an immaculate tune.

What is your favorite Eurovision Contest year and why?

2016 because it was the first year that I watched from the beginning of its national final season. Other than that, I’m quite partial to the 1991, 2009, 2012, and 2021 editions of the show.

If you could change one thing about the Eurovision Song Contest what would it be and why?

I would like for alternating outside countries to participate, much like how Australia had a guest spot in the final in 2015.

What do you LOVE about being in the Eurovision fan community?

The music, first of all. I also appreciate its acceptance, the possibility to meet new people, language-learning opportunities, and understanding new political discourse

What is the hardest thing about being a fan NOT from a participating country?

We can never attribute ourselves with contest entries.
