After three years of successful internal selections, of which Armenia has seen steady climbs on the Eurovision scoreboard, along with a worldwide hit in “Snap“, Armenia has switched back to a national selection for 2025. This is the first time they will use Depi Evratesil since the 2020 edition, of which Athena Manoukian won with “Chains on You”, but couldn’t compete at Eurovision due to COVID-19 canceling the contest.
Now, she’s amongst the twelve competitors who would try her luck out to represent Armenia with the song “Daqueenation“. However, she is not the only familiar name amongst the mix. Anahit Adamian, who was one half of Anahit and Mary from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016, is also amongst the mix with her track “Tiny Little Boo“. And if the name Kamil sounds familiar to you, then you’d be right to suggest that Kamil is back! Them, along with their portrayer Arsen, will sing the upbeat number “Will You Marry Me?“
Beyond the known quantities, the other contestants come from a wide sector of Armenian music, each with their own charms. Anahit Hakobyan, who recently won the Eastern European music competition New Wave, will be singing “Wild” with Gasoiia. Gevorg Harutyunyan, another New Wave representative, will compete in Depi Evratesil for the third time with his minimalistic ballad, “Hey Man“.
And then there are those who want to make their stamp on the competition with their work. Flora Bichakhchyan, who competed in The Voice of Russia, shows off her vocals and her songwriting in the gospel-influenced “Prayer“. Meanwhile, Simon also mixes English and Armenian with the bop “AY PAPAREY BYE“, and Milena Mirijanyan adds a jazzy feel to the competition with her “Romantic Net“.
For those who want a rockier edge, Depi Evratesil has got you covered. For those who pursue a more alternative spin, then Sevagir is for you. With their song “Falling“, they mix Armenian and English along with a story about a conflicted relationship. For something more optimistic, Altsight tells you to “Dare to Dream“, which has a bit more of a pop edge than what the usually alternative band would give, but is quite familiar. And Parg comes on strong with “Survivor“, with a sound reminiscent of Imagine Dragons or the Score.
Like with the 2025 edition, the Armenian entry will be decided by a combination of a televote, Armenian jury, and international jury. Who do you think should win it all?
Depi Evratesil 2025 will be broadcast on 16 February.
