When I found out I had the opportunity to chat with Jordan Smith, The Voice season 9 winner, I was excited. After catching up with some of his latest music, I realized that what he possesses might just be THE Voice. The delicate clarity of his vocal paired with the dynamic ability to perform major vocal gymnastics that many a soul diva would applaud; it became clear that he would be a force. He was. He is our second artist to be selected by the jury to qualify direct for the American Song Contest semifinals and could be a contender to win the whole thing. Check out our conversation:
When asked about the transition from The Voice to the American Song Contest, Jordan didn’t hesitate, “I just love singing.” He cam2e to this contest to bring hope to people. His community in Harlan, Kentucky has already been cheering him on. Smith highlighted:
Being from there, I know just how beautiful and wonderful the people are… While we’re not rich in big buildings and while we don’t have the most money— we’re rich in culture, and in people, and heritage. We have such an amazing history that makes us who we are. And it’s some of the absolute best people that would do anything for you.”
